How platform apps work

Why you need your own developer app on each platform, and the steps every platform shares.

Bulkit posts through your own developer app on each platform. You create the app on the platform's developer site, then paste its two keys into Bulkit. After that, anyone in your workspace can connect accounts through it.

This page covers the steps every platform shares. Each platform then has its own page with the exact clicks.

Who can do this

Only workspace owners and admins can add or replace a platform app. Other members can still connect accounts once the app is set up.

The four steps

Copy your redirect URI from Bulkit

In Bulkit, open Channels → Platform apps and click Set up on the platform. The dialog shows a Redirect URI to register. Copy it.

It looks like this:

https://api.bulkit.io/integrations/YOUTUBE/callback

Paste it exactly

The platform compares it letter by letter. A missing s in https, a lowercase platform name or an extra / at the end makes connecting fail.

Create the app on the platform

Follow your platform's page below. You will turn on the right products, paste the redirect URI, and find two keys: an ID and a secret.

Paste the two keys into Bulkit

Back in the Set up dialog, paste the ID and the secret, then save. Each platform names them a little differently (Client ID, App ID, Client Key…). The labels in the dialog match the platform's own names.

Connect an account

Open Channels → Accounts, click Connect account and pick the platform. Log in and approve access.

Testing mode and app review

Most platforms start your app in a testing or development mode. In that mode only a few accounts can connect, and some platforms limit what the app can post. Read the "Before review" part of your platform's page: it explains what works now and what needs the platform's approval.

When connecting fails

Bulkit saysWhat to check
"The platform rejected the sign-in request"The redirect URI. Copy it again from Bulkit and paste it over the old one.
"The platform rejected your app"The secret. Paste it again; some platforms show it only once. Then the redirect URI.
"Your app isn't authorized for the permissions this connection needs"A product or permission is missing on the app. See your platform's page.
"That platform has no app set up yet"Nobody saved the keys under Platform apps yet.
